Liberty Starts Fast in District Opener

February 28 – If anyone wondered how the Liberty Eagles would respond to being the top seed for the first time in District play and hosting Class 4 District 8 games in their gym; well let’s just say the question was answered on Tuesday night.

The Eagles rolled their opening round opponent, Hannibal, with an impressive 65-38
victory. After an opening 3 point basket by Hannibal, the energy and momentum was all pointing towards Liberty as the Eagles opened up to a 19-11 first quarter lead.

The second quarter started muc the same with the Eagles executing their half court offense with precision due to fast and effective ball movement. The right players were shooting the right shots and the result was a 40-17 halftime lead.

After a Kaleb Overall baseline drive and traditional 3 point play, the Eagles picked up right where they left off once again. After another productive quarter the Eagles had a 30 point lead, 58-28.

Kaleb Overall would finish the game with 26 points.  Brian Jones would also finish in double figures in points with 10 for the game.

The final score was 65-38 in favor of Liberty.  The Eagles will now face Fulton who defeated St. Dominic 63-43 in the other District 8 semi-final game.  Liberty vs. Fulton will take place Friday, 6pm at Liberty High School.
