Liberty Wins District Championship, Faces Jennings in Repeat of 2017 Sectional Game

Liberty High School has advanced to a second consecutive Sectional game after defeating Fulton 65-50 on Friday night at Hannibal High School. The Eagles will square off against Jennings (25-3) who defeated McCluer 67-60 at Ft. Zumwalt East to capture the District 7 title.

The two teams will meet for the second straight year on Tuesday, 7:45pm at Francis Howell Central.

The Warriors of Jennings are led by Senior, Kyle Younge.  Younge is averaging 16.2 points per game and shoots an impressive 44.4% from 3 point range. Junior, Elijah Hicks, averaging 11.9 points per game has also played an instrumental role in leading Jennings back to the Sectional round of the Missouri State High School Basketball Tournament.

Liberty is led by the trio of Kale Catchings, Jayce Catchings and Jaylen Sims. Kale averages 18.5, Jayce is getting 16.7 and Jaylen tossing in 9.8 ppg respectively to lead the Eagles. Key to the Eagles run has been the play on the inside by Junior, Kent Lawson. While only scoring just under 4 points per game, Lawson has provided a level of rim protection for the Eagles that has been difficult for opposing teams to handle.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to the Quarterfinal round and play the winner of Parkway Central vs. Pacific. The winner of the Quarterfinal game will make their way to Springfield, MO as part of the Class 4, Final 4.
